Is this site free to use?

Yes, the site is free to use. 

Can I use the site without being registered and logged in?

Yes but if you are not logged in, there are some limitations on functionality.  For example, you will not be able to view member profiles or comment on videos amongst other things.  There is also a limit to how much bandwidth that 'guests' (users who are not logged in) can use.  One of the reasons for that 'guest bandwidth limit' is to preserve bandwidth resources for our logged in members.  For unlimited use of the site, please simply register an account.  Once you are logged in, you will be able to use all of the features of the site.

I am registered on the main SnowJapan and SnowJapanForums.  Can I login using that same login information?

Sorry, but no.   The sites are hosted separately (for amongst other things security reasons) and so a new account will be needed for SnowJapan.TV.  The registration process is very simple though and should take no more than a few minutes.

How do I upload a video?

First of all you need to be registered.  Register here.

Once you are registered and logged in, please uploading using the Upload Video link to the top right of the site pages.

Why does my video need to be approved before it appears on the site?

This is a security measure.  We will endeavor to approve all videos as quickly as possible - and usually do this promptly.  However, even before we have approved a video, you can still see it on your own My Videos page.  This is only available to you while you are logged into your account.  If for some reason your video has not been approved after 24 hours, please contact us.

How many video clips can I upload?
There is no limit to the number of clips you can upload.  (Well, within reason - there is a limit to the size of our server!)

What is the maximum size of clip I can upload?

The current file size limit in size is 250MB.  However, we do have complete control over that and so if you wish to upload anything larger please contact us.

What type of files can I upload?

Currently the types of video file allowed for upload are:

3gp
3gpp
asf
avi
dat
flv
mov
mp4
mpg
mpeg
rm
wmv

There are so many types of file out there (including variations of the above) that is impossible for us to cover and be able to convert them all successfully.  If your files are a different type of file or you have problems uploading a file, please use some conversion software to convert them before uploading and try again.  Alternatively, if you upload a file but it has a problem please contact us and we will try to adjust as necessary.

Can I embed my video on the SnowJapanForums?
Yes!
On each individual video page, you should see a "SnowJapanForums Embed code" which will look similar to this:

Simply post that code into a thread on the SnowJapanForums and the video will appear.
You can also embed the video on other Forums and websites  using the code shown on the video pages (* unless such a feature is turned off by the person who uploaded the video).

Can I delete a video once I have uploaded it?

Yes.
You can delete your own videos at any time within your account.

Can I delete any comments posted for my clip?

Yes, you can delete any comments posted for your clips or your profile.  
You can also specify a setting within your account that requires your approval before any comments from other members are displayed publicly.

What is 'Quicklist'?

By clicking on the '+' sign on any video thumbnail, that video will be added to your Quicklist for later/repeat viewing.  You can access your Quicklist from the link at the top right of the pages of the site.

What are 'Playlists'?

You can create your own Playlists of videos you like.  Before using the Playlists feature, you need to create at least one Playlist.  On the main Videos page, in the bottom left area please select My Playlists from the My Account section.  From there you should be able to create a Playlist.  Once you have created at least one Playlist, you can add individual videos.

What are 'tags'?

When you upload a video you will be asked to provide tags.  They are similar to keywords and will help other people find your video within the site.  Tags will also help you find other videos throughout the site and are very useful so we encourage you to add relevant tags to videos that you upload. 
For example, if your video was of nighta snowboarding in Niseko Grand Hirafu, the following tags might be appropriate:

niseko grand hirafu snowboarding nighta hokkaido

It's up to you!  You can either write the words with or without commas.

What are 'categories'?

Categories are general sections within the site and also help people easily find clips.  When you upload a video clip, you can specify up to 5 different Categories.  If you wish to suggest new categories to us, please let us know and we will consider adding them.

Will my email and personal information be safe?

Absolutely.  Your email address and other information will be securely stored and not shared with any third party.  Your mail address will not be added to any mailing list.  Please read our Privacy Policy.

How do I change my profile information?

When you are logged in, using the link in the top right area of the page under your username, go to My Profile.  From that page you will be able to add and change your information as well as upload your own avatar image.

Can I post my promotional video?

Please refrain from posting videos that come across as promotional in nature.

What is the relationship between SnowJapan.com, SnowJapanForums and SnowJapan.TV?

The sites are owned and operated by the same people.

I was registered on the previous version of SnowJapan.TV, but I can't login!

This new version of SnowJapan.TV is a complete rebuild and new code.  While we have been able to bring over the videos that were on the previous version, unfortunately we have not been able to bring over all of the member accounts of people who did not upload videos to the site.  If you had an account on the old version of SnowJapan.TV - and did not upload any videos - you will need re-register. 

I was registered on the previous version of SnowJapan.TV and some of my videos are on the new version, but I can't login!
Please contact us and we will provide you with the new login information for the new site.  You will then be able to edit or delete the video if you wish and of course also be able to add more clips.

I'm encountering problems!  Please help!
